Diablo 1

When Blizzard’s Diablo 1 was released in 1997 nobody ever thought that it would become such a successful Game.
With the hack and slay role play game and the revolutionary multiplayer part including Battle.net, where people were able to play for free, Blizzard hit the score. After a short period of time the fan community was growing very fast and soon guilds and fan sites sprang up like Mushrooms.
In the Game the player could choose between 3 different character classes to step down the cathedral.

  • Warrior: a melee fighter skilled in dealing damage with heavy weapons but unable to use magic effectively.
  • Rogue: a perfect archer with certain magic talents is dealing distance damage but is weak in close combats.
  • Sorcerer: A powerful master of magic which makes physical weapons unimportant to him but he is the weakest of the three classes concerning stamina.

The aim of every player was to improve their stats, to collect better Items (and there were plenty of them) and last but not least to defeat Diablo in hell.

Also in 1997 the  Diablo 1  addon “Hellfire” was released. It was programmed by Synergistic Software and not by Blizzard Entertainment The most important feature was the option to run instead of walking slowly through hell. Because of the short time of development many features  were not implemented like the multiplayer part. So it was not possible to play Hellfire on the Battle.net

The final Boss you had to face in Hellfire, after exploring the 2 new Dungeons containing 4 levels , was  the Demon  Na-Krul.
